BLS releases annual data on workplace injuries, illnesses

The rate of nonfatal injuries and illnesses in the workplace dropped slightly in 2007 from the previous year, according to a report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In 2007, nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses occurred at a rate of 4.2 per 100 full-time workers; the 2006 rate was 4.4.

Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao cited the report as evidence of the "effectiveness of the strategy" the Department of Labor has employed in recent years.
