VPPPA members tout VPP importance to Barab

Acting OSHA administrator Jordan Barab recently met with industry stakeholders to discuss the Voluntary Protection Programs in light of a recent Government Accountability Office report (.pdf file) highlighting the program's poor documentation and lack of internal controls.

Various representatives from the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association on July 14 told Barab about the benefits of the program, according to a press release from the Falls Church, VA-based group. Participation in VPP has helped provide a structure for safety programs, has led to statistics that show fewer injuries and gives businesses resources such as the VPPPA Mentoring Program, the release said.

OSHA is currently evaluating VPP to address the problems noted in GAO's report. (Read more about GAO's report in the August issue of Safety+Health magazine.)
